Obituary of James Angus MacMillan

It is with much sadness that we announce the passing of James A. MacMillan (Jim). Jim passed away peacefully March 2, 2022 in Winnipeg Manitoba. Jim leaves behind his wife Joan of 57 years, son John (Leah) and daughter Janet (Phil), his three grandsons, Cameron, Aidan and Connor, and his brothers Ian (Lisa), and Chris. Jim was predeceased by his sister and brother-in-law Anne and Peter and his parents Betty and Donald. Jim was born 1940, in Pembroke Ontario and had retired as a professor of Agricultural Economics at the University of Manitoba, after graduating from University of Toronto (Guelph) and earning his Doctoral degree at Ames Iowa. Jim started his family in Ames and Winnipeg and although his work led him to Vancouver (UBC) and Calgary (CERI), and back to Winnipeg (U of M) Jim kept close ties with friends from Guelph, Ames and Winnipeg. Jim enjoyed travelling, camping with family and friends, fishing and International travels both personal and professional with trips to Brazil, China, Africa, and sabbaticals in Mexico, and Zimbabwe Africa as well as a month long driving adventure with Joan touring New Zealand. The adventures were numerous, from camping and cottage visits in northern Ontario, to camping and skiing on the west coast and Vancouver Island and having a small hobby farm in Calgary with horses, cats and dogs, pigs and chickens all enjoyed and shared with family and dear friends. Jim was an academic researcher of agriculture economics, an avid reader, skier, and golfer, he enjoyed good food and wine, long walks, and football games. Cremation has taken place.
